The Emergency and Ambulance Department at Remera-Rukoma District Hospital is a Level One Emergency Care Unit that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department is adequately staffed at all times with one physician and three nurses to ensure the continuous provision of emergency medical services.
The department provides the following services:
- Medical consultation
- Nursing care and treatment
- Minor surgical procedures
- Resuscitation and life-saving emergency care
- Care for patients with burn injuries
All patients who are brought to the department or seek emergency medical care are first assessed by a physician. After receiving initial emergency treatment and stabilization, they are referred to the appropriate hospital department based on their medical condition or diagnosis.
The department has nine treatment beds, including two resuscitation beds designated for critically ill patients requiring immediate life-saving interventions. It also has one observation room for patients with less severe medical conditions.
The hospital provides safe, reliable, and timely ambulance services for critically ill and injured patients requiring urgent medical attention. This service ensures that community members have timely access to emergency healthcare by providing rapid response, facilitating patient referrals between different levels of healthcare, and supporting continuity of care through efficient pre-hospital transportation as well as transfers between health centers and hospitals.
